Literature Text

The kiss, by which all others to follow will be compared, is nothing to brag about. There is no music, nor fireworks, just the adolescent lust of years of inevitability come to fruition.
Sweet and smoke tinged, I shiver. You think it is the chill of the wind off the dark water and offer me your jacket.

Overcast, it drizzles as we walk, and your long brown hair, ever hanging in your eyes, glitters where the droplets cling. You grab my hand - awkwardly at first, less so as the moments wear on - entwining our fingers and nesting them safe in the pocket of your jacket.
Even when our hands discover other places to linger, this will always be my favourite place to have them.

We like all their pretty songs, but we don’t sing along tonight. Neither of us know what this means, that which we give - but we give it willingly. Shaking in both body and breath, clinging to each other, we foolishly make promises that nothing has to change.
But I will leave tomorrow, and when I come back in a year, everything will be different.
Someday, I will hear Cobain’s rough voice purring In Bloom and smile, sadly remembering how you kissed me, and held my hand, and how we shook that first time.
